Portraiture Painting: The Art of Observation

Portraiture Painting: The Art of Observation

In this workshop students will be guided to think critically, diving into the world of watercolour painting as they create a portrait from life. Students will embark on a journey of exploration, starting with drawing exercises that emphasise keen observation over memory. Exploring a range of watercolour techniques, from basic washes to masterful layering and paint application, students will translate their observations into carefully composed portraits. The focus isn't on achieving flawless realism but embracing the creative process and capturing the essence of their subjects in the moment, noting the powerful way portraits immortalise living memory.
