Portraiture: Painting from Real Life

Portraiture: Painting from Real Life

In this workshop, students will be guided to think critically and take a dive into the world of water colour painting as they create a portrait in real life. Students will embark on a journey of exploration, starting with drawing exercises that emphasise keen observation over memory. Exploring a range of watercolour techniques, from basic washes to masterful layering, empowering students will translate their observations into carefully composed portraits. The focus isn't on achieving flawless realism, but on embracing the creative process, allowing students to consciously capture the essence of their subject – their energy, liveliness, and the powerful way portraits can immortalise living memory.
