ArtKeeper | Work in progress showing - AWAKE by Lisa Smith

AWAKE By Lisa Smith

From searching for the right words for a eulogy, to the hazards of crying unexpectedly in the supermarket, AWAKE is a new theatre work that explores the public rituals of farewell alongside the more private face of grieving.

Join local theatre maker Lisa Smith to see a sample of the work she’s been making with collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Vicky Falconer (Once Darlinghurst Theatre, Fringe Wives Club, Co-Artistic Director Hayes Theatre Sydney) through her ArtKeeper residency. You’ll also hear insights into their creative process and the plans the creative team have for AWAKE’s future.

We invite you to share in an evening of music, storytelling, sandwiches… and perhaps a whiskey or two. AWAKE is both a gathering and a joyful reflection on the ways we say goodbye, facing the expected and the unexpected in grief, and what we’d say if we could do it all again.

Make a night of it!

Register to experience the exclusive first reading of Loki Liddle’s Damn Good Television beforehand - a collection of poetry and stories created through his ArtKeeper residency at HOTA.

Presented by HOTA, Home of the Arts as part of HOTA's ArtKeeper 2024 Public Program.
