Bring your classroom to HOTA. Curriculum linked programs, excursion, workshops, and resources. From early years through to senior and secondary...
We believe art education empowers young people to live their lives by design and not default, and in a changing world this opportunity is more important than ever. And at HOTA, we work to create experiences for not just the next generation, but the people who are responsible for carrying them through their schooling journeys. We're more than a theatre and gallery (although we're that too!). We're a cultural destination where you and your students can experience art and programs that foster collaboration, critical thinking, play, risk-taking and creativity for learning.

Bring your class to explore HOTA Gallery's current exhibitions at their own pace. Self-guided visits give students the freedom to engage with contemporary art in a way that suits their group.

Give your students a front-row seat to live theatre and performance. These shows bring stories to life in ways the classroom can't, sparking imagination and conversation long after the curtain falls.

Let our gallery educators guide your students through current exhibitions with insight and context. These tours encourage discussion, critical thinking, and a closer look at the art on display.

WULABORA Part of the Ballun Gawrehma Series — Stories by the River We walk together into the living heart of Country through WULABORA, a powerful Aboriginal engagement experience tailored to meet the needs of the knowledge seeker. Immersive and educational, it welcomes all ages, from the young to the young at heart. Rooted in ancient wisdom and cultural strength, WULABORA means "the gift and exchange of knowledge and connection." It invites participants on a transformative journey through storytelling, song, art, movement, history, and deep listening. Wulabora opens the space for us to share and discuss seasonal knowledge, stories of the constellations, to create artworks, music and even meditations. The choice is yours. Led by respected Kombumerri artist Lann Levinge, this experience offers more than lessons, it opens the way for cultural awakening, shared understanding, and honest conversation. Gathered by the water’s edge, we hear stories passed down through generations, stories that speak to land, spirit, resilience, and community. Through this rich engagement, participants gain a deeper understanding of First Nations perspectives, language, and lore, encouraging truth-telling, healing, and respect. Whether in schools, community spaces, or professional environments, WULABORA is an invitation: To walk together. To learn together. To honour the voices that have echoed along these rivers for tens of thousands of years. Contact hotaeducation@experiencegoldcoast.com to arrange your education perspectives experience. This tour is open to school groups only.

The Jock and Beverly McIlwain Arts Bus Fund is an initiative to assist in reducing the cost of bus travel to HOTA. Schools can apply to the fund to receive a one-off subsidy to contribute towards bus travel to see an exhibition, performance or participate in a workshop at HOTA.
Planning a school excursion takes a bit of extra care, and we want every part of your visit to run smoothly. Below you'll find the key details to help you organise transport, accessibility, supervision and more ahead of your trip to HOTA.

Schools are responsible for maintaining appropriate supervision ratios in line with Queensland Department of Education guidelines. HOTA facilitators run the program, but teachers and supervisors remain responsible for student behaviour and safety throughout the visit.
Most HOTA venues offer ramp or lift access, dedicated wheelchair seating, and a Changing Places bathroom in the Gallery for students with additional needs. We also have social stories available.
We're happy to provide a general risk assessment for your visit, or talk through any program-specific safety considerations when you book. HOTA holds comprehensive public liability insurance, and all facilitators hold a current Working with Children Check. Our team can also help you prepare any documentation your school needs for internal approval. Get in touch with our Bookings team to request this ahead of your visit.
