Join us for an enchanting First Nations Astronomy Walk, an hour-long journey exploring the celestial wonders as seen through the eyes of the Indigenous peoples of Australia.
Led by Lann Levinge, a knowledgeable guide with a deep heritage as a direct descendant of the Kombumerri, Nughi, and Quandamooka peoples, this experience will immerse you in the rich tapestry of Indigenous astronomy. Discover how the stars guided ancient navigation, shaped spiritual beliefs, and connected the people to their land.
As you wander under the night sky, you'll hear captivating stories and gain insights into the profound relationship between the cosmos and the Indigenous cultures of the Gold Coast. This walk promises to be a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, offering a deep connection to the land and its starry heritage.
This is a free ticketed event. All attendees must register and have a valid ticket.

First Nations Astronomy Walks
Where does the event take place?
Guests will start their journey under the ‘Museum of the Moon’ on the Outdoor Stage as the ‘Meeting Place’ before embarking on the walk around the precinct.
When is the event?
There will be 4 x 1-hour sessions available to experience the First Nations Astronomy Walk

Is it Free?
Yes! Its free to experience the first nations astronomy walks. But you must register and have a valid ticket. You can book online via HOTA’s website or have a ticket issued at the HOTA box office.
Walking Groups are limited to 30 Participants per session.
Is it suitable for Children?
Absolutely! This walk and the stories told are suitable for all ages.
We do ask that all children are accompanied by an adult and supervised as we move around the precinct.
How much walking is involved?
The walk goes for about an hour and will take participants from HOTA’s Outdoor Stage, around the Lake and along the Nerang River. The journey is at a slow walking pace and is approx. 900m in length, taking just under an hour.
Is it suitable for persons will accessibility requirements?
Yes. However, you know your needs better than anyone and we will accommodate where we can. The walk will traverse both concrete pathways and grassed areas and the group can move as fast or slow as required to accommodate your needs or pace. All walks are supervised by our Visitor Experience Team who can assist onsite.
What if it's raining?
In the event of rain, the walks will not take place and the session will be cancelled. The experience wouldn’t be very pleasant standing in the rain for an hour! However, you would be more than welcome to re-book an alternate session – it’s free!
