Voices of Black Ink: A Night of Poetry & Panel Discussion, curated by poetry champion and community activist Huda Fadlelmawla, celebrates the power of spoken word poetry as a force for artistic expression and social change.
As the founder of Black Ink and MC for the night, Huda brings together a powerful lineup of Black Ink poets for an evening of dynamic performances. The night continues with a compelling panel discussion exploring their creative processes, inspirations, and the role of contemporary poetry in art, community, and activism.
Join us for an unforgettable evening at HOTA Gallery, where spoken word poetry meets thought-provoking discussion as part of the Writers Revealed exhibition. This is a night you don’t want to miss!
Ticket prices include admission to the Writers Revealed exhibition, valid to use on the day of event. Regular Gallery hours are 10am-4pm. Ticket holders for this event can also access the Writers Revealed exhibition between 5pm-6pm before the event start at 6pm.

Huda Fadlelmawla
Huda Fadlemawla is an internationally recognised spoken word poet, educator, and activist, renowned for her powerful improvised poetry. A proud Black Sudanese Muslim woman, she uses her artistry to challenge narratives, ignite conversation, and foster deep connections between audiences and writers.
With over a decade in the arts, Huda has made history and broken barriers. She won the Australian Poetry Slam in 2021 and became the first spoken word poet invited to the World Slam Poetry Championship in Belgium. Her impact spans global stages, having performed at Singapore Writers Festival, Ubud Writers Festival, London Queens of Poetry, and Readers Festival, as well as major Australian literary events like Bondi Writers Festival and Adelaide Writers Festival.
Black Ink
Black Ink, based in Meanjin (so-called Brisbane), is a BIPOC-centered open mic space dedicated to centering Black artists and uplifting BIPOC artists. Over the past year, we’ve created a community hub where artists can gather, share, and grow in a space that prioritizes open discussion and fosters meaningful connections.
This event is about celebrating some of our city’s BIPOC artists and giving you the chance to hear their stories. We are bringing Black Ink to you. So don't miss this.
SOLCHLD
Aurora Liddle-Christie, also known as SOLCHLD, is a Magan-djin-based multidisciplinary artist of Arrernte, Alyawarr, Jamaican, Irish, and Scottish settler descent. Her practice explores regeneration as a process of ancestral remembrance and liberatory action situated at the intersection of self, community, and the natural world. Through performance, music, and spoken word, Aurora draws from personal experience, weaving metaphor, faith, and place-based storytelling to navigate the thresholds of metamorphosis.
Ndicho
Ndicho is a multidisciplinary artist who primarily tells stories through writing, performance and film. For Ndicho, art is advocacy, art is introspective and art is tradition. As a BIPOC creative, Ndicho passionately draws on themes of intersectionality, courage and culture. Notably, Ndicho begun her spoken word journey in 2022 by competing in the Aus Poetry Slam and advancing to the Queensland State Final. Ndicho is her great grandfather’s great granddaughter. Ndicho aims to shine her Light, granting others permission to do the same.
Zahrah
Zahrah is a green room award-nominated actress who grew up with storytelling at the centre of her family. Poetry became an extension of her storytelling and expression. She is a multidisciplinary artist who has done film and television and toured Australia in commercial musical theatre. She has a passion for performance ,and Poetry gives her the opportunity to perform her own words on stage.
