Lyrical Landscapes: The Art of William Robinson floated through HOTA Gallery with a symphony of celebration for one of the greatest Australian artists. A hinterland takeover of a building just spreading its roots throughout the city, the exhibition felt like a coronation of sorts onto the national stage of Australian Galleries.
The soulful richness of Lyrical Landscapes will continue echoing throughout the walls of HOTA Gallery as we continue into a new year, new program, and towards the first birthday of Gold Coast’s artistic landmark.
Let’s take a leisurely stroll through the highlights of our longest running exhibition of the year.
#Excelling in the Unexpected
Hearing positive feedback from our visitors is obviously a highlight to what we do; but there’s those rare occasions where we’re able to push them outside of their comfort zones and guide them to a newfound love. Inspiring a new generation of HOTA visitors with the work of a historical artist has been one of the greatest pleasures of Lyrical Landscapes: The Art of William Robinson. From someone’s first ever gallery experience, to a seasoned veteran of the arts, excelling in delighting the masses will be carried into the future.
#Hosting Dame Quentin Bryce
It’s always an honour to host a guest curator, and rarely do we find someone with a portfolio as dense as Dame Quentin. Her almost lifelong admiration for William and his work provided warm guidance and her personal insights into his work added a unique, rarely seen depth to the exhibition
#William Barton in Residency
A timeless talent wielding one of the world’s ancient instruments, William Barton took over Gallery 1 and commanded the attention of all those fortunate enough to catch one of his impromptu performances. Joined by his mother, Delmae Barton, their incredible artistic bond drove a unique energy into William’s work.
