Jay Jermyn is a musician, industrial designer and contemporary artist living in Coolangatta. Jay’s work explores the relationship between digital, natural and human phenomena.
Through this lens, Jay proposes new ways of looking at the notions of self and how it’s fragmented within the contexts of nature, modern technological environments and electronic music.
#The Project
Jay’s time while employed by ArtKeeper will be spent looking at the experiential similarities of electronic dance music and nature. He will explore the parallels of collective consciousness that have been referenced throughout rave culture’s history and the GAIA theory, in which everything on earth is connected.
Throughout the residency he will begin to research these themes by taking field recordings, experimenting with sculptural elements and composing electronic soundscapes and music. Jay will be accompanying his findings with an essay and will document his work to form a free flowing blog (we’ll post the link here!).
Jay will be working on a sculptural installation that references his aesthetic style of industrially designed elements and nature, it will consists of music equipment such as drum stands and synthesisers with sculptural creations representing his interest in nature; using light, glass, stainless steel, 3D printing and natural elements.
