Break endeavours to capture both the fleeting wonderment and calamitous rhythm of the coast, as a rogue wave breaks under a sunburnt sky.

About the Artist

Kymberley McElroy’s multidisciplinary visual art practice focuses on the associations between memory, place and object. Typically drawing inspiration from personal experience, social history and photographic family archives, Kymberley interrogates the lens through which we recollect.

In stark contrast to her meticulous and intentional embroidered expressions that interrupt and reimagine photographic scenes, her paintings, with expressive palette knife techniques and intuitive mark-making, harness the ephemeral effects of light and atmosphere in response to landscape and memory. Through addition and subtraction, Kymberley explores and challenges the capacity of an object or image to elicit memory and how such mnemonic functions can be interpreted and reimagined.

Kymberley is an emerging visual artist living and working in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honours (Class I) at the Queensland College Art Griffith University in 2016.
