Artist Statement
This work is commentary on my view of the Gold Coast. When l think of home, l think of lush landscapes filled with entangled plants. However, in recent years with the growth of population many of these bushlands have been destroyed. Nature if given the chance can fight back sometimes even stronger. Growth through the darkness shows that there is still hope however people need to allow it the chance.
About the Artist
Emily Lamburd studied for a Diploma in Visual Art after much hesitation due to the stigma of art not being a real profession. She developed her artistic style through this course and found a natural rhythm.
In 2022, Emily was accepted into the City of Gold Coast's NextGen program, where she could connect with industry professionals and gain insight into how to set her path in the right direction. NextGen was a turning point in her journey, after which she began working as an Artist Educator at HOTA and expanded her practice within Australia. She has exhibited in group competitions, created personal commissions, and, most recently, collaborated with the Tweed Regional Museum to illustrate its permanent collection for exhibitions and merchandise.
