Artist Statement

Blocks of red earth are exposed one by one, amassing fallen trees. The loss of these living beings mirrors the guilt, empathy and grief that can arise from the scenes within our own lives. These chapters trigger us to reflect and appreciate the beauty, the intricate details, and the vulnerability of our existence, of what surrounds us and what is within us. This sense of awareness and perspective offers the empowerment needed to protect, grow and thrive.

About the Artist

Kannitha Ly is a multidisciplinary artist with Degrees in Fine Art (Distinction) from Queensland College of Art Griffith University and Architectural Design from Griffith University.

Her work spans sculpture, installation art, printmaking and ceramics. Kannitha often leans on the sensibility of materials, allowing it to impart its inherent nature and history to her work. This process contributes to her exploring themes relating to society, the environment and the self. Kannitha has previously exhibited works in Queensland, New South Wales and New York and has recently undertaken an artist residency in Japan.
