Artist Statement

Deluxe consists of a photograph of a fictional psychic shopfront that I started in the pandemic when the future was unknown. The building is based on Burleigh Arcade on the Gold Coast yet is reimagined by combining elements from numerous places worldwide producing a homogenised space that is both local yet global.

Using the psychic signs on the building questions what the future holds for this space. Overall the work examines the way people attempt to make sense of the unknown future, chaos and things unseen, offering a glimmer of hope where reality and fantasy can co-exist.
