Years 3-6 ACARA 9.0 Descriptors and Elaborations:

Music

Students will view a live performance by analysing key musical elements such as rhythm, melody, and instrumentation. This educational opportunity allows students to explore how music serves both personal and community purposes, and to understand the varied expectations of performers and audiences. Students will observe prepared and improvised notations and their impact on musical accuracy and interpretation.

Through critical listening, students will evaluate vocal and instrumental techniques, balance, and the role of texture, dynamics and tempo in shaping mood and emotion. They'll also observe the use of digital tools to enhance their skills and understand technical execution in solo and group settings. This experience will illustrate how sound combinations and notation methods contribute to creating and documenting musical artistry.

Content descriptors and elaborations include:

  • Exploring and Responding
  • Developing Practices and Skills
  • Creating and Making
