This Moment: In Conversation with Geng Xue

Join us on the opening day of This Moment: Highlights from the White Rabbit Collection of Chinese Contemporary Art to hear from Beijing based artist Geng Xue in conversation with HOTA Gallery Senior Curator Julie McLaren.  

Geng Xue is one of 26 artists whose work features in the exhibition. Geng combines porcelain sculpture with stop-motion animation to create surreal video narratives. Learn about the processes involved in Geng’s practise, the artist’s background and influences that inform her work.




Artist Bio

Geng Xue is a contemporary artist working primarily with porcelain, sculpture, video, and installation.  

Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Venice Biennale (2019), Sydney Biennale (2018), and Busan Biennale (2014), and is held in collections such as CAFA art museum China, White Rabbit Gallery (Sydney) among others.

#About Julie McLaren

Julie McLaren is Senior Curator at HOTA, Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast, and curator of This Moment: Highlights from the White Rabbit Collection. She has nearly twenty years’ experience across the gallery and museum sector, with previous roles at the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Ballarat International Foto Biennale, National Museum of Australia and National Film and Sound Archive. She has delivered more than fifty exhibitions and led major commissions, with a focus on collection-based projects and contemporary practice.
