#Artist bios

Joachim Froese

Joachim Froese is an art photographer who lives in Brisbane and Berlin. He has exhibited widely across Australia, Europe, Asia and North America and his work is held in numerous public collections including the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery of Australia.

Combining his exceptional technical skills with a conceptual approach, his extensive body of work is driven by the principal question, how diverse photographic technologies enable us to understand and form the world around us.

As an educator he has held regular academic appointments at universities in Australia and Germany. He conducts workshops in photography that cater for beginners as well as advanced practitioners alike.

In 2017 he received a PhD (Art) from RMIT University in Melbourne and he is an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Communications and Arts, University of Queensland, Brisbane.

Marian Drew

Marian Drew is one of Australia's most significant photographic artists, with a practice spanning 30 years in both education and exhibition. She has held more than 35 solo exhibitions in Australia, United States of America, France, Hong Kong and Germany and over 100 group shows in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, China, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, Peru and the United States.

Marian Drew lives in Brisbane Australia, and is currently a PhD candidate at the Canberra School of Art and Design, Australian National University. She was Queensland College of Art (QCA) Director of the Photography Program 2005-2016, and QCA Deputy Director, 2001-2003, where she taught full time 1986-2016.

Her art work is held in collections that include the John Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, Museum of Photographic Art, San Diego, National Gallery of Australia, Fonds National D’Art Contemporain (FNAC), Paris, France, Art Gallery of South Australia and the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, Monash Gallery of Art, Queensland University Art Museum, Murdoch University and Artbank.

Marian Drew is represented by Onespace Brisbane, This is no Fantasy + Dianne Tanzer, Melbourne.
