Queens Of Concrete
Queens Of Concrete is a seven-year journey following three talented young skateboarders—Hayley (14), Ava (13), and Charlotte (9)—each with dreams of representing Australia at the Olympic Games. Nationally recognised as top competitors in their age groups, these girls are strong contenders. However, as childhood naivety fades, their Olympic ambitions evolve into a tale of resilience, triumph, and self-discovery.
Queens Of Concrete stands apart from traditional sports documentaries with its ethereal score, serene and visually striking footage, and unique directing approach. Director Eliza Cox patiently documents the girls' lives over the years, creating intimate portraits of their individual journeys while reflecting a universal truth—life often deviates from our expectations. Cox’s coming-of-age documentary offers a gripping and at times devastating look into the challenges these girls face while growing up.
Queens Of Concrete chronicles their transition from childhood to adulthood and the moments that define us. As time unfolds, these skaters forge their own identities, each path diverging due to unexpected twists. Navigating life lessons, heartbreak, betrayal, a global pandemic, and pressure beyond their years, they emerge with a deeper understanding of themselves and their aspirations. Ultimately, Queens of Concrete celebrates their enduring spirit and the hopeful realisation that, despite life’s unpredictability, they have grown into strong young women who have each found their own path forward.
