Gettin’ Busy at Home: HOTA Style

Share

While HOTA’s very much open for business, we know lots of people are stuck at home. The good news is, Summer isn’t over just yet.

With so much still to do at HOTA this Jan, we feel like it’s time we take this to the next level. It’s time we come home with you. Big step? Maybe. But honestly, it’s been a long time coming.

Here’s five things you should do to bring some art, culture, and a little bit of HOTA into your house.

Be part of big conversations (virtually)

Big conversations from the people on the frontlines of thought, creation, and development. In partnership with Griffith University, you can stream A Better Future For All with Kerry O’Brien and keep up-to-date with the issues that matter. Featuring conversations with Rachel Griffiths AM, Jess Hill, Alan Joyce, Grace Tame and The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP.

Get to know HOTA Collects

Explore the City Collection online and find your newest favourite piece. With over 200 pieces currently available for you to peruse, get to know the City’s works from the comfort of your own home. Be surprised and inspired by the must-see artworks and discover the artists behind them.

Find your rhythm with African Beat

Commissioned as part of our Rage Against the V(irus) initiative in 2020, find the beat with percussion drumming or bust a move and learn some African dance. A fun and active way to keep your brain and body moving, African Beat’s infectious energy is the pick-me-up you need.

Get messy with the whole family

Get arty at home with our Online ArtLabs and bring to life your own creation with Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran. Requiring minimal supplies, this is your chance to get your hands dirty and watch little artists get to work.

Paint and sip with an icon

Paint and sips have taken the world by storm and now’s your opportunity to get your Picasso and prosecco on at home. Make some happy little accidents with the icon Bob Ross and invite some friends for a virtual night-in or create your happy little trees solo. It’s up to you! With episodes available on YouTube, get your supplies together and make some magic.

Once you’ve sharpened your skills and gotten the taste of a paint and sip life, be sure to show-off at Life Drawing.
