When you book tickets
When you’re booking tickets, let us know if you’d like any assistance when you arrive at the venue and we’ll make arrangements.
Theatres 1 and 2, the Outdoor Stage and both of our Cinemas can be accessed by people with mobility requirements and those who use wheelchairs. Just let us know when you book your tickets.
The only part of Theatre 1 that is not accessible is the balcony, unfortunately this is an old building and there is no lift to this area. You can view the layout of Theatre 1 by clicking here.
Companion Card holders can secure a second ticket for their companion at no cost. Please request this when you book your tickets.
There are accessible parking spaces close to the front of HOTA Central and a designated set-down and pick up area in front of the main entrance.
For wheelchair users and people with mobility requirements there is a ramp that provide access from the street level to the terrace and HOTA Café, and then heading indoors there is a lift which will take you to the main foyer, Box Office and Theatre 1.
There is also the new Green Bridge entry from Chevron Island.
An additional lift inside HOTA Central can take you up to Theatre 2 and the Panorama Room or down to the Lakeside Room.
Guide dogs and Assistance/Service Animals
Your guide dog or assistance/service animal is more than welcome here! Just let us know you’ll be bringing one when you book your tickets.
Closed Captions are now available on select movies that contain the technology which is indicated with a [CC] or closed caption available text. HOTA has 3 types of equipment available to assist our guests upon request.*
The variety of equipment available, are as follows –
Closed Caption Headset Receiver – to assist hearing impaired guests – Glasses with captions that receive caption via Infrared energy. – Integrated System – Single IR emitter carries both HI and VI-N audio and closed caption text
Closed Caption Receiver – Gooseneck held caption box that receives captions via infrared energy. Rests in the chair cup holder.
Listening assistive headset – For our visually impaired guests, now you can listen to audio described movies so you can hear things you might have difficulty seeing with a spoken commentary and enjoy all the parts of a movie, including visual jokes, visual scenes, settings and body language. – These headsets can also be used to assist hearing impaired guests with audio enhancement. – The audio is delivered through a personal headset with individual left and right volume controls.
You can sit in any seat in the cinema and enjoy.
*Please note there is a limited number of devices which are issued on a first in first served policy.
Venues in HOTA Central
We have partnered with City of Gold Coast and Recharge Scheme Australia to provide a free to use power point for people to safely recharge the battery of their powered mobility device. A free recharge point for electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters is now located inside the entrance to HOTA Central.
Our main theatre, Theatre 1, is equipped with Sennheiser Infra-Red Sound Reinforcement to assist people who have a hearing impairment. Let us know when you book if you’d like to use the Sennheiser equipment and we’ll have it ready for you to collect from the Box Office when you arrive.
There are designated places in the theatre for wheelchair users and their companions, they are marked on the seating plan that you can view here.
Theatre 2 is a smaller black box theatre space which is accessible by lift from the foyer and has designated wheelchair spots at the front of the raked seats.
This room, which is used as a function space and venue with no fixed seating, is found on level 1 of HOTA Central, it is accessible by a lift from the foyer.
This room is found on the lower ground level of HOTA Central, it is also used as a function space and venue with no fixed seating. It is accessible by the main lift from the foyer.
The Outdoor Stage is situated in the precinct behind HOTA Central. Generally, people attending events at the stage sit or stand on the sloped grassy area. There are designated spots for wheelchair users and their companions on the level paved walkway which provides good views of the stage. Let us know if you’d like a spot in this area when you book your tickets.
Occasionally an event will take place where temporary seating is placed on the grass, if this is the case please contact us and we will let you know the accessible options for this set up.
There are accessible facilities on all floors of HOTA Central and in the precinct. You will find them clearly signed when you get here.
HOTA Cafe and Terrace Bar
The HOTA Café and Terrace Bar are accessible by wheelchair.
We want everyone to have a great time when they come to HOTA, but we know that not everyone feels comfortable attending a traditional theatre performance. For some events we will offer a relaxed performance which is one that has been modified slightly to consider the needs and preferences of people with disability and their companions.
A relaxed performance may have:
- Lower sound levels and less special effects (but it will still be an amazing performance!)
- A designated ‘chill out’ zone in the foyer, if you need to take a moment out.
- No expectation of how you will enjoy the performance – you can move around the auditorium and making noise is ok – we love hearing people enjoy themselves!
- Houselights will be on at all time so there is never complete darkness

Quiet Hour – HOTA Gallery
On the first Saturday of every month between 9 – 10am we offer Quiet Hour in HOTA Gallery. Our Quiet Hour is provided to ensure a relaxed and calm environment for anyone who prefers a quieter visitor experience.
• Signage encourages visitors to contribute to a more calming environment
• Tannoys are turned off
• Music is turned off
• Hand dryers in the toilets are turned off
• Lower sound and light levels are employed where possible
• We can provide a quiet break out space, please ask a member of staff
