HOTA Collects: Punching Up, 21st Century Indigenous Photography

Gallery 3

Punching Up opens the aperture wide, featuring the photography of six 21st century Indigenous artists; Vernon Ah Kee, Tony Albert, Michael Cook, Karla Dickens, Dr Fiona Foley and Naomi Hobson.

Drawn predominantly from HOTA’s collection, alongside selected loans, the artworks combat stereotypes and share stories of contemporary Indigenous lived experience.

Join us in the Gallery to explore the powerful work of these extraordinary artists. At once political and personal these artistic expressions showcase history, difference and community.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connections to the lands, waters and their extended communities throughout South East Queensland.
