Experience Gold Coast

On 1 September 2023, HOTA has joined Experience Gold Coast, a super entity which combined HOTA, Study Gold Coast, Destination Gold Coast, Placemakers* and Major Events Gold Coast in an exciting new chapter that will see the city’s tourism, events, education, arts and culture portfolios working as one organisation focused on delivering exceptional outcomes for the city. 


The Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Staging Technician to join our Technical Services Department who are charged with the responsibility for:

  • Ensuring that all technical facilities, resources, and requirements within HOTA meet both client and company expectations while adhering to all relevant standards, codes, legislation and policies and procedures, with particular emphasis on WH&S compliance.
  • Working collaboratively within HOTA and by extension with the City of Gold Coast to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the precinct are delivered at the highest level. This includes overseeing all theatre services, technical maintenance, technical capital works, and WH&S operations.
  • Working collaboratively with the Precinct Service Manager in the development of the new Gold Coast Cultural Precinct ensuring future facilities are developed in line with stakeholder expectations, agreed technical specifications and new operational opportunities whilst adhering to agreed timelines and budget limitations.
  • To ensure the organisation of in-house and off premise technical requirements meet the standards and expectations of clients and Home of the Arts management in relation to client liaison, contracts and technical services.


The responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Take a leading role in the coordination, installing and operating of all technical elements utilised in theatrical performances, special events exhibitions.
  • Work as part of a team to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, to successfully deliver the technical requirements of those events and exhibitions under your remit.
  • Manage rostered staff for the implementation and realization of performances, events and exhibitions. 
  • Create operational procedures and maintain record keeping in line with the needs of the business.
  • Take a lead in the maintenance of rigging and staging equipment within HOTA to ensure it is kept in good, safe, working order
  • Provide training to other HOTA staff on specific equipment and exhibitions as required.
  • Use of venue management software.
  • Support the rostering procedures of Technical Services staff.
  • Administration tasks at assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.
  • Provide thorough and relevant inductions to casual technicians, contracted crew, interns and work experience students.
