Artist Statement

As a young child my mother used to tell me: “Don’t forget to Salam and hug me when you wake up and before you go to sleep”. Even now, when visiting family in Malaysia, this action comes naturally. A deeply-rooted tradition that shows love and respect, the act of greeting with this traditional Islamic custom keeps me connected to cultural heritage. Even after years of living in Australia, and as an adult, this action never changes.
