Artist Statement

The Renaissance hero, trapped in a romance; wistful, interpreted in a cinematic vignette. I capture the fantasy of cinema where ordinary objects take on a deeper meaning - arranged flowers, curtains locked in folds, an old telephone. There is love, and there is always loss.

These images are inspired by Haddad's deep love of classic film, extravagant environments, and cinematic staging that depict scenes through subtle illumination. Painterly hues and technical precision anchored by a romanticism - scenes within an imaginary Hollywood hotel.

Haddad’s mastery of combining camera technique with a constant light source, enhanced by digital technology becomes warm and ‘film-like’.

About the Artist

Marnie Haddad's images are elaborate and cinematic, and she takes reference from a Renaissance palette, conquering the marriage of subject and set. Her success lies in her ability to show the emotional power of the subject within a heavily staged environment.

There is always a Renaissance hero, trapped in a romance or wistfulness, interpreted in a cinematic vignette. Objects, too, take on a deeper meaning. Carefully propped, every space is intricate, where we are invited to dance in its possibilities.
