#About Victoria

Victoria Reichelt’s painting practice investigates objects and ideas that are threatened by redundancy, largely due to advances in digital technologies. From stack to spine, dust-jacket to high-gloss magazine, sequential bodies of work have explored the allegorical and formal potential of the book as muse and informant.

Combining technical prowess across paint, digital photography and image manipulation, Reichelt’s stunning realist paintings enforce her message, affirming painting’s place in a world of digital saturation.

Victoria Reichelt studied Fine Art at the Queensland College of Art, graduating in 2005 having completed her Doctor of Visual Arts. In 2013 she won the Sulman Art Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. She has been shortlisted for a number of major art prizes including the Portia Geach Memorial Award, John Leslie Art Prize, UQ Artists’ Self Portrait Prize, the Gold Award and the Fletcher Jones Art Prize.

Reichelt has exhibited internationally at ART16 London (2016), Art Stage Singapore (2013) and the Korean International Art Fair (2011). Her work has been curated into exhibitions at Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art, Linden Centre for Contemporary Art, UQ Art Museum and Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation. Reichelt’s work is represented in major institutional collections throughout Australia including HOTA Gallery, Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art, Artbank and Rockhampton Museum of Art.
