Disruptors in Residence

The residency will be inspired by The Pop Masters exhibition and build on Nick Power's most recent full length work, exploring the relationship between turntablism and street dance forged in the Block Parties of 1970's New York.

Australian B-Boy and Choreographer Nick Power, alongside DJ Total Eclipse (A.B Original & Hilltop Hoods) and B-Boy Jackson Garcia (Golden Coastline & Team Cream), plus a crew of Gold Coast based street dancers will lead a week of creative residency at HOTA. Featuring pop up performances, DJ sets, freestyle jams and choreographic labs with local dancers, these Disruptors in Residence will bring Hip Hop culture live and direct to HOTA.

We choose artists who playfully interact with audiences and we align their residencies to other activities happening in the precinct. They sometimes shock, often amuse and confuse, and gently disrupt your day (in a good way).

Each artist is invited to interact in their own style, to experiment and create. The arts are not predictable and neither are our Disruptors.
