Caroline Gillmer will be taking the stage as the stars of White Rabbit Red Rabbit.
Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour was forbidden to leave his country – instead he wrote himself to freedom and let his now iconic play, White Rabbit Red Rabbit, travel the world in his place.
Each night the play is performed a different actor walks on stage. With no rehearsal, no director, and a script waiting in a sealed envelope on stage, both audience and performer must take a risk and stumble into the unknown.
A reminder of the transformative power of theatre, timely in a year where so many of us have been isolated and disconnected from each other, this is an experience that requires hope and courage.
HOTA’s season with special guest performers is one of thousands worldwide. The play has translated into over 25 different languages, and performed by some of the biggest names in theatre and film, including Whoopi Goldberg, Darren Criss, Billy Porter, Nathan Lane, Stephen Fry, John Hurt, and Laura Linney.
‘Wildly unpredictable and completely unforgettable, White Rabbit Red Rabbit is a punch in the air for self-expression; a testament to the power of words to transcend cultures and borders. You have to be there.’ New Zealand Herald
