Secret Broadway

Starring Shoshana Bean and Simon Burke
Hosted by Lance Horne
Featuring Mindy Kwanten and Jordan Malone
With Tim Carroll, Adele Parkinson and James Shaw
The secret’s out! We’re bringing Broadway to the Gold Coast in 2020 and our Secret Broadway headliners include the incredible Shoshana Bean (USA) and Australian stage and television icon Simon Burke.

Secret Broadway is a series of unforgettable evenings of musical theatre favourites, with numbers performed by special guests from Broadway and beyond. It’s part late night sing-a-long and part homage to musical theatre and cabaret. Nothing unlocks the love of theatre like a musical – and Lance Horne is inviting audiences to fall in love with their favourite songs all over again.

Our first international guest Shoshana is a veteran of the Broadway stage, having made her debut in the original cast of Hairspray, starring as the very first replacement for Elphaba in Wicked and most recently as Jenna in Waitress.

Joining Shoshana is Simon Burke,  who has performed in musicals both in Australia and overseas for over forty years, including Anything Goes, The Phantom of the Opera, Falsettos and Mary Poppins. His has also been a familiar face on Australian television screens, appearing in programs like The Flying Doctors, Water Rats, Blue Heelers, All Saints, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Rake.

Also featuring in the cast is extraordinary vocalist Mindy Kwanten, fresh off the back of playing ‘Cynthia’ in The Sapphires, as well as Brisbane-based Jordan Malone, who recently made her debut in the new musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Don’t miss this extraordinary concert, only on the Gold Coast.

What Is Secret Broadway?

The cabaret series Secret Broadway takes a page from the award-winning book ‘The Secret Life of the American Musical: How Broadway Shows are Built’, which explains (and mirrors) the narrative structure of great American musicals – beginning with an overture and closing with a curtain call.

Each evening of entertainment is inspired by a chapter in the book and a type of musical song, for example:

The ‘I Want’ Song
The Wizard and I from Wicked, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly from My Fair Lady

The Conditional Love Song
You and Me (But Mostly Me) from The Book of Mormon, We Can Do It from The Producers

The 11 O’Clock Number (The big finish)
Rose’s Turn from Gypsy, You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray

In this first cabaret evening this Feb, it’s ‘curtains up’ as we celebrate the opening numbers  and ‘I want’ songs of Broadway in all their glory including classics such as Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’ from Oklahoma!, I Hope I Get It from A Chorus Line, and Something’s Coming from West Side Story.
