New concept designs for the HOTA Gallery revealed
On 19 July, City of Gold Coast unveiled the concept designs for the new $60.5 million HOTA Gallery. It’s exciting to start imagining what our new gallery will look like.
The concept design shows the continued use of the Voronoi shape (as used in the Outdoor Stage design), the colour scheme and three-dimensional effect on the façade. Also revealed was the design for the new green bridge across to Chevron Island.
The new international-standard HOTA Gallery will be a place of connection and innovation where art and ideas flourish, and bright functional spaces come alive. Containing playful and inclusive spaces, the gallery will present an annual exhibition program that’s ambitious in scope, unexpected, surprising, inclusive and engaging.
Early construction works begin in September this year with the major construction activity beginning in March 2019.
Once completed in late 2020, the gallery will include a 1000sqm exhibition space, 850sqm of collections galleries, a Children’s gallery, artist workshops, a retail shop, restaurant and rooftop bar. And over the next few years, we’ll be busy preparing the city collection for its new home and planning the world-class touring exhibitions we will bring to the Gold Coast.
The construction of the HOTA Gallery is a major step in the evolution of the precinct as we keep building the momentum for a richer, deeper arts and culture experience for the Gold Coast.
