Queensland’s COVID Vaccine Plan – Visitors/Audiences FAQs

In line with the Queensland Government plan, from Friday 17 December all audiences and visitors to HOTA will be required to be fully vaccinated to be in our buildings or attending our activities.

These new measures are a condition of entry to HOTA, whether you are a resident or visitor to the City. It means that everybody on site will need to be fully vaccinated, unless you are medically exempt. Visitors will still be required to check in using the QLD Government app.

As HOTA implements these regulations, we appreciate your understanding and support.

What is the Queensland Government plan?

From 17 December, visitors to HOTA will be required to be fully vaccinated to attend events and be in our buildings. This also extends to our staff, artists and contractors.

What does this mean for me?

If you are 16+ on the day of your visit, you will be required to have received both doses of an approved vaccination to attend events and activities at HOTA.

How will you check vaccination compliance?

You will need to present a vaccination certificate – either digital or hard copy – upon arrival to HOTA.

This includes a digital certificate in your Apple Wallet or Android Digital Wallet, a digital or printed copy of your vaccine certificate issued by Medicare. The QLD Check In app can also host your vaccine certificate and you can read how to upload it here.

Do I still need to check in when attending events?

Yes, you will be required to use the Check In QLD app or use the manual check in process on arrival.

I don’t have a smart phone, will a hard copy of the certificate be okay?

Yes – HOTA will accept a hard copy but you may be required to provide additional proof of identification to verify its validity.

I am medically exempt from receiving a vaccination, can I attend?

Yes – although you will be required to provide evidence on entry as well as identification to verify its validity.

Does my child require a vaccination?

The plan stipulates that anybody over the age of 16 will require vaccination. Anybody under 16 is not required to be vaccinated.

I have tickets for an event and will not be vaccinated, can I request a refund?

Yes, please complete this form and your refund will be processed. This may take up to 20 working days as we work our way through a large number of forthcoming events.

My event is in the future, what if the rules change and I have already received a refund?

As soon as the requested refund is processed, your tickets / seats will be reallocated for sale.

We will accept refund requests up and until the day before an event is scheduled so if you are happy to wait, so are we. Refund requests the day of or after an event will not be authorised.

Can I go to The Exhibitionist Bar, Palette or the HOTA Café if I am not vaccinated?

No, the plan set by the Queensland Government requires all hospitality venues to have vaccinated staff and visitors.

Can I have a drink in the Lawn Bar as it is an open space?

No, the Lawn Bar is part of HOTA’s licensed area and all hospitality venues must comply with the Queensland Government plan.

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend the Farmers’ Market?

No – the Farmers’ Markets are considered an ‘essential service’ and vaccination is not required to attend.

However, if you wish to enter HOTA Central, HOTA Café, HOTA Gallery or any events on the Outdoor Stage you will need to provide evidence of vaccination.

Do I need to be vaccinated to visit the parklands?

No – however there may be restricted areas you cannot enter if we are in an event mode in outdoor spaces.
