Printing Place with Botanicals

About This Project:

Retritus will spend 7 consecutive days gathering local plant matter to experiment with using different eco printing techniques and creating dye baths to extract colour on to natural fibres including wool, silk, linen and hemp.

They will be documenting the different outcomes created from certain variables such as material, water quality, geography and dyestuff. The artist will then create a patchwork mural pieced together from examples of all the natural dye and eco print samples created over the week (to then be available to be exhibited at a later date).

The Project Outcome:

Take a look at Retritus’ visual diary.

About the Artist:

Retritus is a re-worked ideal stemming from the word ‘detritus’ to include the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ethos. Retritus is an artist who uses only natural fibres and botanical dyes to achieve their results, everything made is compostable at the end of its lifecycle. With no formal training this artist has learnt through experimentation and working one on one with artists across South East Queensland.

Retritus aims to use as much upcycled materials as possible and works sustainability into every step of their process.
