Australian jazz legend Wilma Reading, a contemporary of Duke Ellington and Oscar Peterson, sings highlights from her dazzling international career. She will be accompanied by the 13 piece Sweet Thunder Jazz Orchestra. Together they will make this show a night to remember.
Growing up in what she describes as the ‘village’ of Cairns in the 1950s, indigenous singer Wilma Reading was discovered performing at a Brisbane Jazz club while on a school softball tour. This proved to be the catalyst for an international career that spanned the globe and recently saw her inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame.
Highlights included performing with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, featuring at New York’s Copacabana Night Club, starring on London’s West End and rubbing shoulders with giants of jazz and US luminaries Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Tony Bennett and Dave Brubeck. Wilma truly has led a life worthy of a Hollywood film.
