Deadly Hearts: A Celebration of Australian Indigenous Music

Featuring Jessica Mauboy, Archie Roach, Aodhan, Selve, Kinship Collective and HVWKS

When we think of Australia as home, we think of shared stories, culture and identity.

From the hearts and mouths of a cross-generation of Indigenous Australians and taking inspiration from ABC Music’s Deadly Hearts album, this first nations concert features some of Australia’s best present and emerging artists. Jess Mauboy, Archie Roach, Aodhan, Selve, Kinship Collective, HVWKS and other artists to be announced.

Jessica Mauboy

She’s a four-time ARIA accredited Platinum seller, Australia’s exceptional entertainer, a national darling that is one of the hottest creative exports and above all that; Jessica Mauboy is a singer songwriter with the talent to take a tune to the top of the charts. Not only has Jessica has sold over 3.4 million units globally, achieved 5 top ten albums, 15 top twenty singles, have over 158 million global streams, Jessica has toured with big leagues Beyonce, Chris Brown and collaborated with the likes of Ricky Martin, Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg and Pitbull. Jessica has performed for Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres and made history being the first non-European solo artist to represent Australia at Eurovision. Jessica made her acting debut in the Australian film musical ‘Bran Nue Dae’ which also starred Academy Award winner Geoffery Rush. Jessica starred in the internationally celebrated and multi-award winning feature ‘The Sapphires’. Jessica received both the AACTA and AFCA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her outstanding portrayal of the role of Julie. Jessica made her way back to Australian screens, in the six-part TV series ‘The Secret Daughter’ in a role specifically developed with Jessica in mind. The series so successful it returned in 2017. This year, Jessica released , ‘Sunday’ and ‘Little Things’ from the fourth studio album HILDA which will be released 18th of October. With her best work to date, Jess has co-written each of the 14 tracks on HILDA.

Archie Roach

No one has lived as many lives as Archie Roach – from stolen child, teenage alcoholic, seeker, lover, father, musical and lyrical genius, to social advocate and First Nations leader – but it took almost a lifetime to find who he really was.

Roach voices the joy, pain and hope he found on his path through song to become the legendary singer-songwriter and storyteller that he is today – beloved and respected by fans worldwide.

Deadly Award Winner for Lifetime Contribution for Healing and Album of the Year winner, Archie is one of the most respected Indigenous Musical Artists of our generation.

Releasing his first self-produced singles in 2019, 15 year old Dharawal singer/songwriter Aodhan was honoured to win JJJ’s Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative with his coastal folk flavoured ‘When Your Eyes Speak’. Taking influence from a huge range of writers, genres, and eras in music Aodhan fuses heartfelt writing with soulful musicality.

Selve are a psychedelic art rock band based out of the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The band is formed of Indigenous lead singer/songwriter Loki Liddle and lead musical composer Harry Edwards (Elder Children). Together they create narrative driven alternative music inspired by the likes of Foals, Nick Cave and Tame Impala.

Making waves in the Australian electronic bass music scene, Brisbane-based Indigenous artist HVWKS is truly paving his own way through this ecosystem with a unique sound ranging from melodic future bass to heavy hitting trap beats.
