About This Project:
life.e.quatic/isolate/InPlace.exe is an experiment; a performance; and a practice in escapism. By creating makeshift props, utilising her own sculptured art pieces and her home as the set, Erica aims to create aquatic landscapes to play out short video scenarios of different world similarly reacting to the same type of virus. A different world, where marine creatures are a metaphor of us… a form of togetherness and community.
As the process evolves and the pieces amalgamate, Erica aims to capture the kinetic experience of wearable art, as well as presenting a playful approach to dealing with negative feelings of helplessness, listlessness and sadness caused by current isolation.

About the Artist:
Erica Gray is an award-winning sculptor and wearables artist, with an extensive working background within the fashion industry. This wealth of knowledge has been adapted to produce an array of stitched, moulded and assembled pieces. Initially influenced by garment design and their fabrication processes, she now utilises similar principles as well as adapted 3D technologies to produce much of her sculptured works. Pieces often contain reference to personal experience as well as a concern for humanity and our environment. Works that regularly comprise a blend human and animalistic form, often layered with meaning, through to pieces designed to play on emotions…
Erica’s works have been displayed nationally and internationally within museums, such as the Iconic Mars Modern Art Museum (RU), the World of WearableArt Museum (NZ), exhibited within Sartorial (Vivid Ideas, Sydney), New York Fashion Week, Various Fashion/ Tech runway shows, photographed in collaborative shoots, worn by performers/ artists, including vocalists, experimental dance, international models, videographers & stylists.
Awards include Award for Artistic Excellence in the Norths Sculpture Festivals, Strand Ephemera, Townsville and recipient of the Gen-I Creative Excellence Award in the World of WearableArt, NZ. She is represented by Anthea Polson Art, Gold Coast and Penny Contemporary, Hobart.
