HOTA Kids Imagine

HOTA Kids Imagine

Kids Imagine is a program designed for kids aged 10-15 where they can create, collaborate and formulate ideas for performances, projects and installations throughout the year. The performances are determined by their interests and are crafted alongside professional artists. The program aims to work closely with all kids involved to realise their full potential as emerging young artists and opportunities within the arts industry.

We began working with our first cohort of young creatives in 2020. During the pandemic, our Imagine team went online to continue with projects in song writing, music video creation and more. The group built storytelling skills with Gold Coast author Brian Falkner, learned from Internationally acclaimed opera singer Jason Barry Smith and worked with local legends like musician, Bobby Alu. After our venue re-opened, they performed with the HOTA Choir at WONDER: Return to Earth on our Outdoor Stage and sung with Bobby Alu at HOTA’s 12 Days of Christmas. The program also led to participant Lilyana publishing her first book, titled ‘Scarlett Sloth is not the best’, at 10 years old!

2021 brings a wave of new opportunities for young artists with a series of small group projects that run over 6 months. There are projects in singing, storytelling, soundscape composition, making mini-orchestras, video mapping, creating news content and more. We also have 5 young artists in our Kids Creative Development stream for 2021 where they’ll work on arts projects that they’ve proposed that sit alongside our existing offerings.
