Diwali is the most famous ancient Festival of Lights which is celebrated all over the world by people of Indian origin in various ways. Diwali at Gold Coast will be an opportunity for the Indian community to showcase their culture, traditions and celebrate the event in an exuberant way. At the same time it’s an opportunity for the local community to connect with the Indian community and build better and harmonious relationships while learning about other cultures.
Mor (Peacock) and Mermaid will be the theme of the event for 2021 and will be quite visible in our storytelling leading up to the event and after the event as well.
Peacock is a national bird of India and Mermaid is dear to Gold Coast and associated with sea, water and beauty. Peacock is passing on the Diya full of light, art, culture and traditions with an aim to showcase Indian culture while making an effort to recognise the local values, traditions and symbols. This also aligns with the value of respect and friendship between both the cultures while celebrating Indian culture.
