Join artist Kuweni Dias Mendes to find, gather and make your very own bush brushes to make drawings in our studio. Kids will enjoy exploring our parklands and connecting with our natural world.
Every Little ArtLab involves dress ups and a musical procession, followed by a making activity with a leading artist.

About the artist
Kuweni Dias Mendis is a contemporary drawing artist. Born and raised in Sri Lanka, she has childhood memories of the rural landscape of Bibile, walking barefoot in paddy fields, swimming in the river, playing and bathing with her pet elephant and foraging for food cooked in clay pots on a wood-fired hearth. At this early stage she was drawn to nature and its markings, and believed that she recognised faces, figures, animals and the landscapes woven within it. As a child she believed that nature was sharing stories that made sense only to her.
Dias Mendis came to Australia aged 19 to study and found her way to Queensland’s mountainous Beechmont where she lives with her family, close to the Binna Burra rainforests. In this place she has found meaningful relationships within its community and is immersed in the natural environment.
