2018 Creative Learning Program

Times are a changing and it’s clearly evident all around us in our
ever-changing world.

2018 marks the start of a new chapter in our story of creating the home
of art and culture on the Gold Coast. There is no limit to what we can
present here. Our new Outdoor Stage and its versatility provide a new
venue for your exploration and enjoyment. It is our hope and ambition
that with your collaboration our impact will be felt socially, culturally
and economically. We want this creative learning program to inspire
our future generation of active citizens.

As educators, you are our partner in lifelong learning and we stand
with you as a champion of art. We believe in its power to unite,
challenge, transform and delight. We believe art education enables our
children to live their lives by design and not by default. We are genuinely
interested, constantly inventive and always learning. That’s how we
innovate and it will take time to foster our cultural evolution.

Celebrating and showcasing our Gold Coast identity is important as
we proudly support our community as the host of the Gold Coast 2018
Commonwealth Games. The We Are Gold Coast exhibition explores our
evolving identities. Our selection of performances, exhibitions, student
workshop’s and teacher professional development workshops bring
together the best of national talent including Bangarra Dance Theatre,
Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Dance Company, Monkey
Baa Theatre Company and Mercury’s Wings. Queensland’s richest art
prize JUWSPA, and the inspirational ENERGIES 2018 exhibitions remain
foundation pillars of our program.

We are grateful that the Jock and Beverly McIlwain Bus Fund will
continue to support Gold Coast students through the generous subsidy
of bus travel to the Centre in 2018. We also acknowledge Emmanuel
College for their support of the professional development program for
all Gold Coast teachers in 2018; and thank our generous supporters,
partners, and Friends of HOTA for support of our
program and experiences.

We believe HOTA is the platform for Gold Coast
children to grow in their creative development. We invite you to wander
our parklands, explore our theatres, gallery, and spaces and discover,
reflect and be inspired by the diversity of our experiences.
We look to welcoming you all home.

Yours in art,

Criena Gehrke
Chief Executive Officer
