Queensland Ballet’s exquisite box office-breaking fairytale The Sleeping Beauty heads to the Gold Coast this February.

Princess Aurora’s birth is the joy of the kingdom, and the King and Queen hold a grand christening party in celebration of the happy event. Among the guests are the five fairy sisters (half-sisters to the Queen), who bestow upon Aurora the gifts of beauty, wit, grace, song, and wisdom.

Suddenly, the Wicked Fairy appears and casts a spell on Aurora: when the princess turns 16, she will prick her finger and die. With a counter-charm in place, the village falls asleep with the princess for 100 years, until one day, Prince Désiré stumbles upon the vine-covered castle….

Intertwined with Marius Petipa’s renowned original 1890s choreography and accompanied by the exquisite Tchaikovsky score, Greg Horsman’s two-act retelling will sweep you away to a land of enchanted forests, kings and queens, and charismatic creatures that creep, crawl, flit and flutter.

Queensland Ballet’s most successful ballet of all time will weave the magic of true love’s kiss throughout the theatre after a hugely popular 2021 Brisbane season.
