David Robert Mitchell follows up his iconic horror hit It Follows with something very different – a millennial slacker noir boldly mashing up Inherent Vice, The Big Lebowski and Mulholland Drive into something profoundly weird and iconoclastic. Mitchell’s film divided Cannes last year, playing like a surreal Philip Marlowe detective story for the Reddit generation.
Andrew Garfield plays Sam, a bored millennial with a penchant for conspiracy theories. When his mysterious and attractive neighbour (Riley Keough) suddenly goes missing, Sam embarks on a self-appointed detective mission revealing dog killers, goth bands and roving girl gangs. Has Sam stumbled into a giant elaborate conspiracy? Or are these all just empty clues amounting to nothing?
