Chela and Chiquita, an upper class lesbian couple, have their lives thrown into disarray after Chiquita’s debts finally catch up with her. Chiquita is thrown into jail, separating the two for the first time in 30 years and Chela, forced to begin selling off their assets, finds her privileged existence rapidly falling apart.
The Heiresses is an extraordinarily sensitive character study, highlighting the journey of two women, sharply thrust out of a complacent rut, and into the joys and heartbreaks of real life. With incredible central performances, and luminous cinematography, this is rich, memorable cinema at its most sophisticated.
