Around the World in 7 Minutes with Dr and Lady YaYa

Artist:

Cocoloco

About This Project:

Freedom of travel around the globe in the future appears to be an inconceivable fantasy.

So, in a series of video clips, Dr and Lady YaYa will take you on a virtual world rollercoaster to many of their favourite places using (in)appropriate observations, judicious homilies and discerning intimations.

We (Cocoloco) have a huge library of unusual destinations and recollections and an urge to share these in a delicious potpourri or perhaps a salmagundi like running around the Tate Modern in a half an hour with occasional coffee stops to catch a breath.

Dr and Lady YaYa have a particular view of the world based on a love of strange imagery, irreverent humour and overly-sentimental humanism all cooked in a surrealistic stew peppered with stoicism and cynicism like an ambitious cross between Mrs Beeton’s cookbook, a Terry Gilliam melange and a food fight at St Trian’s school for girls.

The Project Outcome: Around the World in 7 Minutes with Dr and Lady YaYa

Warning: Includes coarse language.

About the Artists:

Cocoloco
From a world where Alice in Wonderland meets The Shining, performance troupe Cocoloco presents raucous, hilarious and ever so slightly bent theatre. This is cabaret performance and street theatre with a twist. Cocoloco’s work has been described as “the high art of madness to perfection”, as they delve into David Lynch’s notebook and present Salvador Dali-esque, truly bizarre street theatre. Cocoloco brings anarchic, eye-catching, quirky and wildy funny peripatetic performance to theatre festivals throughout the world!

Cocoloco excels in everything from ‘Glimpse Theatre’ to ‘Vaudeville on the Street’ to ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Hardcore Experimental Theatre’. We can create nonsense or information, in a humorous and aesthetic mode. We have a very good battery of eclectic possibilities of style.

Cocoloco believes in a multitude of things theatrical, essentially, that difficult ideas and complex problems can be expressed in accessible ways for everybody to enjoy in street performance and entertainment. All art contains keys to the doors of perception, existentialism, the life behind the mask and often, innuendo. Cocoloco loves to present events that flood the audience with imagery and crazy ideas which you can take home and even mull over in your sleep.

Trevor Stuart
Born on the Gold Coast and raised in Brisbane, Stuart studied science at UQ, performed for QTC, and attended went to the Decroux Mime School in Paris then worked for the legendary experimental company, Lumiere & Son. He has worked in theatre, film and television as an actor (he won an award for his performance of Salvador Dali) and directed many performance companies.
Helen Statman. U.K. /Icelandic. Studied drama and film at Bristol University. Worked in theatre for many years, then in the feature film industry both in front and behind the camera. Returned to street theatre and cabaret in 2000 to set up Cocoloco with Trevor Stuart.
