Writers Revealed

Explore six centuries of world-famous portraits and rare manuscripts from literary legends in this unprecedented exhibition.

Offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come face-to-face with some of the most well-known figures in English literature, the exhibition will feature literary giants such as William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, William Blake, Virginia Woolf, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, J.R.R. Tolkien, Lewis Carroll, Sir Kazuo Ishiguro and Zadie Smith.

For the first time, intimate handwritten manuscripts, letters and illustrations, as well as rare, published editions from the British Library will be seen alongside outstanding portraits of authors from the National Portrait Gallery, London, exploring the connection between literature and visual expression.

Exhibition visitors will encounter some of the world's most celebrated individuals who created great literature such as Romeo and Juliet, The Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Oliver Twist, Winnie the Pooh, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Peter Rabbit and many others.
